Abstract: This CD-ROM contains four collections of data on Sea Surface Temperature (SST), Land Surface Temperatures (LandST) and Ice Coverage (ICE). The collections are: * ATLAS8: a set of SST data in monthly 1 degree and 5 degree area grids, for 1856 to 1995. * ATLAS7: an older version of ATLAS8, with older corrections, covering 1856-1991. *GISST2.2: monthly 1-degree grids of ICE coverage for 1903 to 1994 (also contains SST); *LANDST: monthly 5-degree Land Surface Temp. data for 1851-1995 (also contains SST). In addition to data files, GIF images of the monthly grids are available. ATLAS8 and ATLAS7 also contain auxiliary data used in processing the main SST data, such as surface fluxes, as well as climatological SST averages (for 1961-1990).

Two formats are available:

CDROM with HDF Data: All data are stored in Hierarchical Data Format (HDF). Read and conversion software are available. The conversion software converts the HDF (.hdf) files into ASCII (.txt). Visualization tools are also included for LINUX, PC and Macintosh. The CD-ROM can be browsed and ordered online at http://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/cdrom/gostaplus_hdf/order.htm

CDROM wtih Binary Data: All data are stored in Raw Binary. Read and conversion software are available. The conversion software converts the Raw Binary (.RAW) files into ASCII (.TXT). Browse images for selected data sets are also included. The CD-ROM can be browsed and ordered online at http://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/cdrom/gostaplus_binary/order.htm

Data Set Volume: ~650 Mb.
