09 Dec 2004: New Data Added to GOES L3 6km
NRT SST (NOAA/NESDIS)

PO.DAAC Product #190

The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the availability of 1 hour and 24 hour sea surface temperature data from NOAA GOES-9 (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite). This is an addition to our
existing GOES L3 6km data product, derived from the GOES-10 and -12 satellites.

Spatial and temporal coverage for all satellites is as follows:

- GOES-10 & GOES-12, 180W to 30W & 45S to 60N
1 hour: May 12, 2003 (DOY 132) - Present
3 hour: May 12, 2003 (DOY 132) - Present
24 hour: May 12, 2003 (DOY 132) - Present

- GOES-9, 110E to 180W & 42S to 42N
1 hour: October 23, 2004 (DOY 297) - Present
24 hour: November 3, 2004 (DOY 308) - Present

The major advantage of the geostationary observation of SSTs is the increased number of cloud free pixels.

01 Dec 2004: Faster Data Transfer Tool Available

In our continuing effort to improve services to our users, PO.DAAC now offers more rapid electronic transfer using a commercial product, Aspera, with a free web client. This tool provides reliable and faster data transfer; users havetypically found a 5x to 10x improvement over conventional FTP, although much greater improvement is possible. This tool overcomes the challenge of large data set transfers over any Internet Protocol (IP) network, regardless of network conditions and geographic distance.

The Aspera tool provides complete built-in security, precise transfer rate control for guaranteed data delivery times, end-to-end transfer progress reporting, and supports interoperable file and directory transfers.

For more information on how to download and use the free web client software with PO.DAAC data products, please go to: http://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/aspera.

*The JPL PO.DAAC does not endorse Aspera. Aspera is an additional data transfer option made available to our users.*
