Monitoring Changes in the Arctic Using Saildrone, SMAP Satellite and Ocean Models Data
The Arctic Ocean is one of the most important and challenging regions to observe - it experiences the largest changes from climate warming, and at the same time is one of the most difficult to sample because of sea ice and extreme cold temperatures. Additionally, changes in river discharge reflect both changes in ice coverage, as well as precipitation in the Arctic. Both of these are related to the region’s changing climate. Rivers discharge freshwater into the ocean and thus impact areas of discharge by freshening coastal ocean waters. This impacts coastal ecosystems and changes in biodiversity.
