Brief Description: Join us to learn about NASA's archive for physical oceanography data in the context of Open Science. We'll provide you with an introduction to remote sensing and in situ products at NASA's Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC) and show you how to work with these data in the cloud.

Jessica's responsibilities include promoting open science within the PO program. This entails promoting the use of cloud computing, open software and open data. Before coming to NASA HQ, she worked at the Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC) at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). There she stewarded datasets for altimetric missions, sea level and ocean circulation and participated in those corresponding science teams. She also chaired and co-chaired multiple informatic groups for data and software citations and active with the coastal altimetry community. Just before leaving PO.DAAC, Jessica was helping PO.DAAC transition its data and metadata to the cloud.
Speaker: Dr. Edward Armstrong, Senior Science Systems Engineer, NASA PO.DAAC, JPL
Ed has been an active member of the NASA PO.DAAC since 1999. He has nearly 30 years of experience in oceanographic remote sensing measurements, and with improving and evolving Earth data science and services capabilities. His current interests include improving infrastructure and data services to foster interdisciplinary science using NASA space, airborne and in situ data.
Speaker: Dr. Jorge Vazquez, Research Scientist, JPL, California Institute of Technology
Dr. Vazquez has been a research scientist at NASA's JPL for 37 years. Currently he serves as a Project Science Team Member supporting Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Surface Salinity for the PO.DAAC. He also currently serves as the incoming chair for the Advisory Council for the international Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST).
