The PO.DAAC would like to inform its users about the PO.DAAC Cloud Data Migration Timeline Update.

  • The Phase 3 and 4 of our migration will be transitioned on November 14th, 2022.
  • The retirement date for PO.DAAC Drive and certain legacy data access tools and services (specifically LAS, CWS, THREDDS) will be moving to March 31, 2023. After March 31, 2023, users will only be able to access PO.DAAC data through the NASA Earthdata Cloud endpoints.

As detailed in the 12 July 2021 announcement, PO.DAAC has been migrating datasets to the NASA Earthdata Cloud, hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS). PO.DAAC data have been migrated to the cloud in four phases.

For up-to-date information, please visit the PO.DAAC Cloud Data Migration page and subscribe to the PO.DAAC mailing list.

What Users Can Expect on November 14, 2022:

  • Discoverability of the local archive instance of Phase 3 and 4 datasets will be removed and only the cloud archive version will be available.
  • References to legacy data access tools and services for the Phase 3 and 4 datasets, including PO.DAAC Drive, will also be removed.
  • The PO.DAAC users will need to complete the transition of their legacy data access scripts and methods to conform to cloud data access endpoints, as PO.DAAC Drive and certain legacy data access tools and services (LAS, CWS, THREDDS) will be retired in the near future.
