Dataset Update: March, April, May, and June 2017 data added to JPL GRACE Mascon Version 2 Datasets

2017-09-28

The JPL GRACE Mascon Ocean, Ice and Hydrology Equivalent Water Height (hereafter, Mascon) Version 2 datasets have been recently updated with four additional months to its data time series, which brings the time series up to June, 2017. Users are cautioned that after August 2016, the accelerometer on GRACE-B has been turned off, and an “accelerometer transplant” product (from GRACE-A) has been used in its place.

GHRSST L4 G1SST will stop production

2017-09-26

Please be informed that the GHRSST L4 G1SST dataset (https://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/dataset/JPL_OUROCEAN-L4UHfnd-GLOB-G1SST) will stop production at the end of October 2017 due to research changes by data provider. For existing G1SST users, please consider other high spatial resolution L4 datasets such as OSTIA and MUR as alternatives.  We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to the users.

The OSTIA and MUR datasets can be found here:

NOAA VIIRS GHRSST L2P and L3U updated from version 2.40 to 2.41

2017-09-19

Please be informed that the NOAA VIIRS GHRSST datasets (L2P and L3U) have been updated from version 2.40 to 2.41 starting on September 15, 2017.  The PO.DAAC has ingested the new data streams, but the formal release process may take at least a month to accomplish.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to the users.

MODIS L3 Sea Surface Temperature (SST) upgrade from v2014.0 to v2014.0.1

2017-09-12

Please be informed that the PO.DAAC has updated the Ocean Biology Processing Group (OBPG) produced MODIS L3 SST datasets from version 2014.0 to 2014.0.1. To keep minimum affects from this upgrade, the PO.DAAC dataset base-paths retain the v2014.0 in its version naming branch. The MODIS Aqua and Terra SST R2014.0.1 has made two major changes to the SST processing software: correcting misclassification in the SST cloud classifier and improving mapping software by using weighted spatial averaging over nearest neighbor.

Public Release of the GHRSST SEVIRI-IO L3C SST v1.0 dataset from OSISAF

2017-09-06

The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the release of the SEVIRI-IO Level-3C version 1.0 Sea Surface Temperature (SST) dataset in collaboration with the Ocean and Sea Ice Satellite Application Facility (OSI SAF), EUMESAT. This dataset is in the netCDF format and compliance with the Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) Data Processing Specification version 2 (GDS2).

Data in Action: The next big question in sea level science: projecting regional changes

Members of the NASA Sea Level Change Team (N-SLCT) were in New York City this July where more than 300 scientists from 42 countries gathered at Columbia University for a week long Regional Sea Level Changes and Coastal Impacts Conference. The international conference was organized by the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), Climate and Ocean – Variability, Predictability, and Change (CLIVAR), and the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and was co-sponsored by NASA.
