File-level metadata anomaly in the GHRSST MODIS Terra L2P Sea Surface Temperature dataset

2021-07-22

It has come to our attention that a large number of netCDF granules in the most recent version 2019.0 Terra L2P SST dataset (https://doi.org/10.5067/GHMDT-2PJ19) have an incorrect value in the file-level global metadata for the version. For the erroneous granules, the global metadata attribute “product_version” has a value of “2014.0” instead of “2019.0”.

Updated PO.DAAC High-Level Tool for Interactive Data Extraction (HiTIDE) tool, version 4.8.2

2021-07-14

We are pleased to announce an update to the PO.DAAC High-Level Tool for Interactive Data Extraction (HiTIDE) tool. Version 4.8.2 is now available online at https://podaac-tools.jpl.nasa.gov/hitide/. For questions or to provide feedback, please visit the HiTIDE Forum.

PO.DAAC Data Migrating to Earthdata Cloud in AWS

2021-07-12

With the impending arrival of high-volume data from new missions such as the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT), the need to effectively archive and distribute significantly larger data volumes is critically important for PO.DAAC operations. To meet these needs, PO.DAAC is migrating its data archive to the NASA Earthdata Cloud, hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS).

As PO.DAAC and other Earth Science data move into the Cloud, end users will be able to do more than ever, enabling multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary science and its application through large-scale analytics and cloud computing. For more information visit Earthdata Cloud Evolution page.

NOAA/STAR GHRSST L3S LEO-PM v2.80 Dataset Release

2021-07-06

The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the public release of the NOAA/STAR GHRSST global 0.02-deg L3S-LEO_PM v2.80 dataset produced from Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) JPSS satellites (currently, NPP and N20) with VIIRS sensor onboard, replacing NOAA POES system with AVHRR GAC (4km/nadir).

The L3S LEO_PM (L3S: Level 3 “super-collated”) aggregates two individual global L3U SST datasets (10.5067/GHVRS-3UO61 and 10.5067/GHV20-3UO61). The dataset consists of two daily files, one daytime and one nighttime, corresponding to nominal JPSS local equator crossing times around 01:30/13:30, respectively, in netCDF-4 format compliant with the GHRSST Data Specification version 2 (GDS2).

Multi-Mission Optimally Interpolated Sea Surface Salinity (OISSS) Level 4 V1.0 Dataset Release

2021-06-30

The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the release of the Multi-Mission Optimally Interpolated Sea Surface Salinity (OISSS) Level 4 V1.0 dataset. This dataset grids the Level-2 orbital swath data from the AQUARIUS/SAC-D mission (25 August 2011 to 7 June 2015), the Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission (April, 2015 - present) and Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) onto a 0.25-degree spatial and 4-day temporal grid using Optimal Interpolation (OI) .

Sentinel-6A Michael Freilich Altimetry Low Resolution NRT/STC Datasets Release

2021-06-22

NASA's Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC) is pleased to announce the initial release of datasets from the Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich/Jason CS radar altimeter mission, which aims to provide high-precision measurements of global sea-level that build upon the extensive record of observations from the previous Jason series altimetry missions.

GRACE and GRACE-FO Level-3 Monthly Ocean & Land Mass Anomaly RL06 version 04 Datasets Release

2021-06-11

The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the public release of the updated Tellus JPL/GFZ/CSR GRACE and GRACE-FO Level-3 Monthly Ocean/Land Water-Equivalent-Thickness Surface-Mass Anomaly Release 6.0 (RL06) version 04 (v04) datasets. The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission is a joint partnership between NASA and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

NOAA/STAR GHRSST L3S LEO-AM v2.80 Dataset Release

2021-06-01

The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the public release of the NOAA/STAR GHRSST global 0.02-deg L3S-LEO_AM v2.80 dataset produced from three Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) Metop-FG satellites: Metop-A, -B and -C . The Metop-FG satellite program was jointly established by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT).

Reprocessed JPL SMAP Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) CAP V5.0 Datasets

2021-05-24

This is to inform users of the JPL SMAP Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) CAP V5.0 datasets that select L2B and L3 8day running mean and monthly files on the specific dates cited below needed to be reprocessed.  This is due to an error of Antenna Scan Angle (ASA), that required the SMAP project to replace TB files containing the affected orbits.
